Home in Sight

Project Notes:

“Home in Sight,” created by artists Oletha DeVane and Christopher Kojzar, is a site-specific commemorative sculpture honoring the life, achievements, and legacy of Dr. H. Phillip Venable. Installed at Dr. H. Phillip Venable Memorial Park in Creve Coeur, Missouri, the artwork also invites visitors to reflect on the Venable family’s story and the history of racial residential segregation connected to the site.

The sculpture’s central form was inspired by an ophthalmic lens flipper, recognizing Dr. Venable’s distinguished career as an ophthalmologist. Fabricated from stainless steel and glass, the artwork changes as visitors move around it and as sunlight passes through its reflective and transparent surfaces. A central medallion represents life’s journey and the pathway that ultimately leads us home.

ART Research worked closely with DeVane and Kojzar to fabricate, finish, transport, and install the sculpture. Bringing together carefully formed stainless steel components and fitted glass elements, “Home in Sight” reflects the collaboration, precision, and craftsmanship required to transform a meaningful artistic concept into a permanent public artwork.
