Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of working alongside artist Grainger McKoy, helping bring many of his remarkable sculptures from concept to reality. This week, we welcomed him back to our facility with his latest creation, “3 Feathers on the Breath of God.”

The piece, a striking composition of three intertwined feathers, arrived ready for the first step in its transformation—digital scanning. Using our advanced scanning technology, every curve, ridge, and fine line of Grainger’s intricate carving is captured in precise detail. This digital model will serve as the foundation for producing two large-scale sculptures: a 6-foot bronze and a towering 17-foot stainless steel version.

Both sculptures are destined for installation in Sumter, North Carolina, about a year from now. Until then, the journey has only just begun. From scan to casting, finishing, and final installation, we’ll be documenting each stage of the process—offering a behind-the-scenes look at how this feather-light design will take on monumental form.

Stay tuned as we follow “3 Feathers on the Breath of God” from its digital birth to its final flight.
